Dr. Surinder Kumar is an internationally recognized expert in microwave engineering and holds a number of patents in this field. He is Chairman and CEO of Vecima Networks Inc., a Canadian high-tech company with over 900 employees and $114 million in annual revenue that designs and manufactures last mile broadband solutions which are deployed worldwide. Prior to him founding Vecima in 1988, Dr. Kumar was a professor and holder of the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council's Industrial Chair in Telecommunications at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Kumar received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in electrical communication engineering in 1967 from the India Institute of Science, Bangalore, India and his Masters of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India in 1971. He received his Ph.D. in Electronics Engineering from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada where he was a Commonwealth Scholar. Dr. Kumar received the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Western Canada in 1998 and the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Pacific Region in Information Technology in 2005. In his home community of Victoria, BC, Dr. Kumar is a well recognized philanthropist, donating substantial personal time and resources to various charitable initiatives.
